Yesterday morning DH decided it was time to paint the bathroom. I said OK. Now I need some design help! Here are some photos of the bathroom before this past weekend. Here is the view looking in from the door.
Here's my dilemma: I have looking into the bathroom and seeing the toilet! I know it is a bathroom and that's where the toilet is. The room just looks unfinished to me. The space where the storage was sitting looks so lonely.
Here's my question: What would you do with this space? I'd like options other than a laundry hamper or more storage. Any other suggestions for the bathroom?
I'll post about my decluttering task last night tomorrow. I need some help with the bathroom first.
Thanks for your suggestions!
Sweet P

From the photos, it's hard to tell just how much space there is....what about a small bench? You could put a a basket at one end with some guest towels, soaps and such.. Since you have the wainscotting, a small farmers bench would look great in there...
I really like that color! I agree that the cabinet does look a little "lonely" maybe you could do something like this (even if it was just on one side):

Maybe you can put a small quilt, or piece of fabric that "goes" with your bathroom in a frame (to avoid moisture damage) up on the wall?

I like the wooden bench idea, but painted white, or yellow. Is there a shower in their or is it a powder bath? If no shower, a quilt rack with some quilts would be nice. A basket of silk flowers on a pedestal type table too. The possiblities are endless!!!
how about a room divider that your husband can whi up with an old door or two pieces of wood and some type of pretty fabric on it.
I would go for artwork of some sort, either painted on the wall or a shelf with knick knacks. You could get some porcelain teddy bears, for example, or paint a bear on the wall.
Get ahold of your handyman and have him construct a knee wall! You could even have him construct it so there would be storage on the side that faces the toilet to store toilet paper, etc . . .
Everyone has given wonderful ideas; my thought is to add some plants and knick knacks onto a wooden shelf. Plus a quilted wall hanging to tie it all together color wise.
I think all the suggestions were wonderful and would make it even more perfect. It looks good to me... I need to paint mine. Another day ....
I think I would put a small table in there, with a cloth tablecloth on top. That way, you can have a pretty display on top, and put some stuff underneath - best of both worlds. ;)
I like the room divider approach, maybe a half wall with spindles possibly beside the toilet and some type of shelving or cabinet on the plain wall.
I would be trying plants or pretty bathroom accessories on a white cane stool /table type of furniture.
Some nice ones have a shelf
Could have plants on top and hand towels on shelf and rolled towels in the bottom section.
I did a bathroom and used a corner toilet which almost made it non visible when you first walked in.
Maybe if a plant is not suitable something modern in artificial plants/flowers/branches may work.
Have fun.
Large glass jars with various toiletry things in them may also work.
I think it needs something with a soft feel to it. Seems like it's all hard edges. What about one of those half-table shelves you sometimes see in hallways? You could put a flower arrangement, etc., on it, with a pretty wall quilt above? Lots of good ideas -- it will be fun to see what you do!
I'm thinking that maybe a wicker sofa-height table would look good and soften the lines. Maybe with a plant and some soaps or something to soften the lines a bit. I love the beadboard!
(embarrassed to admit that I didn't even KNOW that you had a house blog!)
The yellow and white looks clean and cheerful. How about some white shelves/ shadow boxes with pretty knick-knacks? Or a lovely big framed print or photo? An old soap ad would look great!
I think a knee wall to divide the toilet area from the rest of the bath is a great idea. If you don't want to go to that expense, how about a divider made from 3 narrow louvered doors? You can get the ones made from plastic material that are really inexpensive and look like wood. Put them together with piano hinges. You can hang pictures on the side the divider. Also, I think I would switch out the light bar for one with more white in it as opposed to the chrome.
